Call for mountain bike volunteers

The Malvern Hills Trust is putting a call out for mountain bikers to help improve access on the Malvern Hills.

On Saturday 23rd February, the Trust is running a volunteer conservation day on the hills aimed at improving access along one of the many bridleways that cross the Hills.  The route, along the slopes of Pinnacle Hill, will form part of the Long Mountain Biking Route when it is installed in the spring.  However, some of the route has been narrowed by vegetation and the Trust is inviting local mountain bikers to help out.

Clearing vegetation in this location will not only improve the sight-lines along this sweeping path but will also benefit the grazing livestock and other grassland species.

This year's volunteering session follows from a very successful conservation day in February 2018 on North Hill.

All are welcome (not just riders).

Meet at Gardiner's Quarry car park (map)
10am-1pm
Saturday 23rd February

Gloves and tools will be provided.
Please bring warm clothes and boots as the working area is steep.

Please contact Beck on beck@malvernhills.org.uk to register your interest so we've got an idea of numbers, or if you need more information.

Responsible Mountain Biking Campaign

We've been working with local mountain bikers on a responsible mountain biking campaign. This campaign has included the launch of a new map and guide to help walkers and cyclists navigate the footpaths and bridleways of the Hills.  We've also installed two of our three planned waymarked cycling trails for visitors to the Malvern Hills.

Beck said ‘Mountain biking is a fantastic way to enjoy the views the Malvern Hills have to offer and is a great way to stay fit and healthy.  Providing more information for cyclists will help riders to enjoy this shared landscape in a way that keeps them special for the future. ’

The work of volunteers is essential in MHT’s care for the Malvern Hills.  A dedicated team of volunteers assist with various tasks in the office and out on the Hills and Commons.
