Mountain bikers gathered on Saturday to improve access for visitors to the Malvern Hills.
Fifteen volunteers including eight local riders joined MHT and Butterfly Conservation volunteers on Saturday to clear scrub and small trees from a popular bridleway from North Quarry car park.
The zig-zag path from Ivy Scar Rock up to De Walden Drive is an extremely popular walking and cycling route however overgrown vegetation was impeding access. The wonderful work of volunteers has improved sight-lines along this path and created more passing areas for visitors heading up and down the Hill.
Beck, Community and Conservation Officer said ‘We’d like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to put something back into the Hills we all love. In the winter sunshine, everyone got stuck into tackling prickly gorse and broom to open up access for visitors, whether they're on foot or on two wheels.’
Responsible Mountain Biking Campaign
We've been working with local mountain bikers on a responsible mountain biking campaign. This campaign will launch this spring and will include a new map and guide to help walkers and cyclists navigate the footpaths and bridleways of the Hills. We'll also be opening up a series of waymarked cycling trails for visitors to the Malvern Hills.
Beck said ‘We’re looking forward to launching our mountain biking campaign this spring which will provide more information for local mountain bikers and cycling visitors from outside the area.
‘Mountain biking is a fantastic way to enjoy the views the Malvern Hills have to offer and is a great way to stay fit and healthy. Providing more information for cyclists will help riders to enjoy this shared landscape in a way that keeps them special for the future. ’

The work of volunteers is essential in MHT’s care for the Malvern Hills. A dedicated team of volunteers assist with various tasks in the office and out on the Hills and Commons.
