Sheep chased by black dog

Around 7:45pm last night, a number of sheep were chased near St Ann's Well by a black dog.

Thankfully none were injured but one ewe was found in the centre of Great Malvern and would have suffered an enormous amount of stress and fear from being chased all the way from the Hills.  The sheep (and dog) was also at significant risk of being hit by a car on the main roads that surround the hills.

Be a responsible dog owner and keep your dog on a lead when walking near livestock or within the grazing compartments.  Check Stockwatch before you visit and plan your route so you know where to find cattle and sheep and where to put your pet on a lead.

If you need to report a livestock incident, please call 01684 892002.  During out-of-hours, follow the instructions on the recorded message to be put through to a warden who will contact the grazier.

If you witnessed this particular incident, please contact the Trust at info@malvernhills.org.uk and report it to the police on 101 or online.  Livestock worrying, which includes chasing, is a criminal offence and dog owners found to have allowed their pet to worry livestock could face a fine, or in the worst case, see their dog destroyed.

Update (6th August): Due to the large number of sheep distressed by the incident and the poor state of the temporary fencing, it took the grazier 17 hours to safely return all the sheep to the compartment as they had been scattered far and wide.
