Trustee elections - Invite to briefing session for potential candidates

Are you interested in playing a part in the future guardianship of the Malvern Hills and Commons but want to find out more? An opportunity is being offered for those who are interested in standing for election to the board of the Malvern Hills Trust this autumn.

We're holding a briefing session on the evening of Monday 25th September for potential candidates to find out more about being a trustee.  At this event we'll provide further information and guidance relating to:

  • the work of the Malvern Hills Trust 
  • the role and responsibilities of a trustee
  • candidate eligibility and the election process

Nominations open on 27th September and close on 5th October at 4pm. An election will be held on Wednesday 1st November.


Call for candidates

The Malvern Hills Trust is inviting candidates to come forward to stand for election to its Board this November.

Those interested in playing their part in the future of the Malvern Hills and Commons are invited to get in touch with the Trust to find out more about this exciting role.

The Trust is the charity that looks after the Hills and commons, which are protected under the Malvern Hills Acts, and its Board of trustees are responsible for managing the organisation.   Every four years eleven of the trustees are elected by the voters of Malvern, Guarlford, Colwall and Mathon.

Trustees are responsible for the strategic oversight of the charity, ensuring that it is meeting its statutory requirements and in caring for this iconic landscape is delivering the charity’s objects.  The Board meets at least five times a year, with most trustees also sitting on one of the four committees.   

The Malvern Hills Trust election will be held this year on Wednesday 1st November.  The election process will be held in accordance with the electoral arrangements as outlined in the 1924 Malvern Hills Act (the Malvern Hills Trust is the registered working name for the Malvern Hills Conservators).  A map of the ward boundaries has been published on the Trust’s website and can be made available from the Trust.

Those interested in standing as a trustee are invited to contact the Trust at info@malvernhills.org.uk for an informal chat.  A briefing session has been organised for potential candidates on the Monday September 25th at 6.30pm and those wishing to attend should contact the Trust to book their place.

A spokesperson for the Trust said “This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in making some of the key decisions about how the Trust delivers its charitable objectives.  These range from decisions about how the Hills and commons managed by the Trust are looked after, to financial control of the charity, health and safety matters and risk management.   Becoming one of our trustees is a privilege but also one with considerable responsibility.   

“To operate most effectively, the Board needs people on it with a range of skills and knowledge.  People with experience in areas such as land management, finance, charity governance or human resources would be particularly welcome. It would also be good to see candidates standing from a range of backgrounds who would bring more diversity to our Board.”

“One important point to note is that being a charity trustee is different from being elected to a local authority.  Once elected, our trustees are legally obliged to act solely in the best interests of the charity’s objects. ”

All trustees are unpaid.  Candidates for election must fulfil certain criteria, which include being registered to vote in, living in or working in one of the wards or parishes that pay the Trust’s levy.  

Nominations open on 27th September and close on 5th October at 4pm.
