Donkey Shed restoration begins

A project to restore the last remaining donkey shed on the Malvern Hills has begun.

The careful restoration of this part of the Hills' heritage is supported by Malvern Civic Society and through Defra’s new grant scheme called ‘Farming in Protected Landscapes’ (FIPL), facilitated by the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty partnership.

In the 19th century, riding donkeys up the Hills was extremely popular for children, women, elderly and inform to access the Water Cure treatments at St Ann's Well and to take the fresh air of the countryside.

This shed would have been one of the locations where donkeys were available to hire.

Access to Happy Valley will still be possible whilst contractors are working on site.
