Public access improved at Community Woodland

We're delighted to announce that path improvements have been completed in a local woodland to provide year-round access for visitors..

The Malvern Hills Trust who own and care for the Community Woodland, found along the eastern edge of Townsend Way, are working to provide better access to the woodland for local people.

These path improvements, carried out by contractors Withybed Ltd, are part of a larger project that has also included the installation of a new bridge to give walkers access across through the entire length of the woodland.

The project has largely been funded by Malvern Hills District Council following a successful grant application by the Trust.  The Trust received £40,955 of Section 106 money, which is paid by developers as part of legal agreements linked to planning applications.

Beck Baker, Community and Conservation Officer said, “We are delighted that our funding application for a grant to enable us to undertake these access improvements was successful.”

“Thanks to the support of Malvern Hills District Council, we are able to provide better access through this wonderful woodland and encourage more local people to enjoy and explore this fantastic green space.”

Beck added “This woodland has so much potential and there are hundreds of people who live nearby who perhaps don’t know about it or that it is open to the public.  In the current crisis it is even more important to stay healthy and well by spending time outdoors. “

Visitor information will also be provided to help people find out more about the wildlife that can be found in the Community Woodland and benches will be installed to provide opportunities for people to rest and enjoy nature.

“By improving the condition of the paths and providing visitor information here, we hope to help more people explore and care for their environment.”

Benches have been donated to the Trust by local people and there are still some available.  Those wishing to contribute towards a bench are encouraged to take a look at their website www.malvernhills.org.uk/get-involved or call 01684 892002.

The Community Woodland came under the Trust’s jurisdiction in the mid-1990’s after the construction of Townsend Way and the development of the nearby industrial and retail parks.
